Give It Away

What do we do with our down-time? What do we do when we're between jobs, projects, or assignments. Wait? Maybe. Yet it's not productive. Rather, achieve an economy of scale. Fill that void by filling it for others. If you are already getting paid or worse yet, not getting paid - for that time in between, use this time as your hidden sales opportunity.
The suggestion:
Using social media or a blogging site, put something out there. Give some answers to questions raised by a community of potential users for your services. Don't sell your company or product. simply participate. Taking this route, you accomplish a few things. You build a skill in writing and answering to your public. You become an expert. Real or perceived is irrelevant. Your the de facto choice. And finally, the biggest Get is that future client that's hanging around on those same sites.
Your business will get a voice. You get a voice. You become search-able and you have something to offer. It it doesn't pay off immediately, stick with it. It takes time to build a following and put a history of work together for your readership and Googlers. And remember, you aren't losing any money in the process. This is a calculated risk that "will" pay off in the form of experience and a relationship you will be able to benefit from in the future.
Happy Giving.
